The Best Movies of Summer 2017

  1. Wonder Woman (Warner Bros. & DC Comics, Cruel and Unusual Films and Atlas Entertainment) (Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot delivered the best superhero origin movie since Richard Donner made us believe a man can fly in "Superman" and Tim Burton made us want to be the Caped Crusader in "Batman [1989]". Great action, kickass performances and chemistry from Gal and co-star Chris Pine and excellent supporting performances from Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, David Thewlis and Lucy Davis make it a memorable summer movie)

  2. Baby Driver (TriStar Pictures, Media Rights Capital and Working Title Films) (Movie fans complained that their wasn't enough original films in the era of awful movie reboots and crap-tastic R-rated comedies that failed to deliver laughs in the actual movie instead of the trailer. Thankfully writer/director Edgar Wright best known for the Cornetto trilogy [Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/The World's End] and the cult-classic action/rom-com "Scott Pilgrim versus The World" delivered something totally original with action-musical heist flick "Baby Driver" and let's just say from a fan and critic standpoint of view it didn't disappoint and the performances from its cast including Ansel Elgort as the titular Baby, Lily James as Debora, Jamie Foxx as Bats, Jon Hamm as Buddy and Kevin Spacey as Doc were firing on all cylinders and the soundtrack a must-download and must-dance and listen to)

  3. Dunkirk (Warner Bros. & Syncopy) (This is the first movie to throw its hat into the Oscar ring and it definitely lived up to the hype and writer/director Christopher Nolan paid tribute to the civilians and soldiers who put their lives on the line to go back home and didn't throw in a subpar love story a la Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor")

  4. War for the Planet of the Apes (20th Century Fox & Chernin Entertainment) (A bittersweet and action-packed finale to the new Apes franchise under director Matt Reeves and star Andy Serkis as Caesar who seriously needs an Oscar nod for his powerhouse performance because he puts in the work to make Caesar human-like)

  5. Spider-Man: Homecoming (Marvel Studios & Columbia Pictures) (Star Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man/Peter Parker since Tobey Maguire put on the red and blue costume and the rest of the cast Michael Keaton as bad guy The Vulture, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Marisa Tomei as the lovely Aunt May, Zendaya as M. J. and the rest of the cast was excellent)
