The Steal of the 2018 NBA Draft

When Mizzou played their first preseason game and I saw Jontay Porter playing against college guys for the first time, I told a friend of mine who is an agent, "That kid is going to be a Top 15 pick." He replied something like, "Eventually, for sure. I agree."

I told him, "No, this year. Mark it down. He's a Top 15 pick."

Think about it. Next year's draft is weak. The draft after that one isn't shaping up to be very strong either. Jontay has a chance to be a Top 5 pick in either draft. So if you're drafting somewhere in the middle of this draft, you have a chance to get a Top 5 guy. Remember, he reclassified this year, and the big lefty is only 18 years old. It's not as crazy as it sounds. He's going to be the steal of this draft.

From the article...

Porter isn't the most athletic big in the class, but he might be one of its most skilled. Considering he'd open the 2018-19 NBA season as an 18-year-old, that shouldn't be overlooked.

And his skills just so happen to snugly fit today's league.

His per-40-minute marks speak to his versatility—16.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.7 blocks and 2.0 triples.

He has size and strength but also finesse and a soft touch. He can score from the post to the perimeter. He's clever and capable as a passer. He has tight handles for his size. His lack of explosiveness hurts around the rim, but his defensive reads are usually right and on time.

Combine his ability with his age, and he offers both polish and potential. It isn't hard to envision him becoming the steal of this draft.

I don't want to be the guy that says "you heard it here first" or "I told you so," but YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST. I TOLD YOU SO.

Jontay Porter is the steal of this draft. Both Porter brothers will be pro next year, and unless Mizzou gets Courtney Ramey to sign, they Tigers might be in rebuilding mode.

Thanks for reading. #JWT
