RATED - E for Everyone.
What's up JWT Nation. I wanted to share this with everybody. I came across a great article the other day that talked about ways to help you not quit things so easily. I think at some point in our lives, we've all been in the middle of something really hard or really boring that we wanted to quit. Here is what I found and wanted to share...
1. Re-Adjust Your Focus: Sometimes a person will quit just because they lose their focus. For example, maybe you're on the football team, and you are going through something at home that is really, really hard. On top of that, the coach has been on your case. On top of that, you and your girlfriend are having a fight. ON TOP OF THAT, you're having a bad hair day. It's a lot to take at once. In a fit of frustration, you quit the football team. You just can't take anymore. WAIT JUST A DOGGONE MINUTE... if you could just readjust your focus for five minutes, you'd see that the problem at home is temporary and will probably go away in a week. You and your girlfriend always fight and make up. No big deal. And your hair is amazing, so you know tomorrow is going to be a win for you in that department. See what just happened? You re-adjusted your focus, and now you're going to be an all conference running back instead of a quitter. You're welcome.
2. Recharge With Your Support System: True story, when I was a senior in high school, my best friend was going to quit the basketball team. He didn't get to play a lot and the game wasn't fun anymore. He walked in coach's office to quit. I don't remember exactly how it happened, but the moral of the story is I talked him out of quitting. He ended up being a pretty decent player, we had a lot of fun, and now we've got all these great memories of playing ball together. He just needed a good word from the right person, which in this example, just happened to be me. Who is that person for you? Who is going to encourage you when you need it? When you feel like quitting, go to those people that are going to support you and recharge your batteries.
3. Draw On Your Own Strength: Maybe you felt like quitting another time, but you didn't, and you can remember how well that turned out for you. Use that experience to strengthen you and stop you from quitting now. I'll give you an example of my own. I went through Officer Candidate School with the United States Marine Corps. To that point in my life, it was the hardest thing (physically, mentally, etc) that I'd ever been through. Then a few years later I was in a near fatal car wreck. I broke my ankle (BAD), my hip, cracked my head, and shattered my left arm. The rehab was BRUTAL. While I was in Officer School, when it would get really hard, one of the staff Sargents used to always say "this won't last forever." We would keep pushing. So when I was in rehab, no matter how painful it was, I would tell myself, "this won't last forever." I kept pushing through it, and thank God, I've made a 99% recovery from those horrible injuries.
So when life gets hard, or you're in a tough situation, take a step back. Re-adjust your focus, try to find positive people that will encourage you, and think about a similar situation that you've made it through. You can do this. Don't quit.
Thanks for reading. Have an awesome day. Make it a win. #JWT
