Michael Porter, Jr is the top high school basketball player in the country. Today the University of Washington released him from his national letter of intent.. That means he is now a "free agent" and can pick any college to play at next year.

The Porter family is from Columbia, MO. Both of his sisters play for the Mizzou Tigers. Porter and his younger brother, Jhontay, starred for Tolton High School in Columbia. His father, Michael Porter, Sr, was an assistant coach on the women's basketball staff at Mizzou two seasons ago.

The Kansas City star laid all of this out in an excellent article. Mizzou has been terrible for years. Porter has a chance to revive a proud basketball tradition. Mizzou fans have been waiting for this. Porter, who would arguably be the top recruit in the history of the program, has a chance to do something special...

He has a chance to be the guy who started the dynasty at Mizzou. Cuonzo Martin, an East St. Louis native, was just hired to be the new head coach at Mizzou. He has a chance to finally tap into the deep pool of top level talent (Brad Beal, David Lee, Jason Tatum, etc) residing in St. Louis, MO that always winds up playing college ball somewhere other than Mizzou.

The turnaround is GOING TO HAPPEN with or without Michael Porter, Jr. I believe that with all of my heart. Instead of being just another guy at Oklahoma or Virginia (Porter's other choices), Porter could come to Mizzou and be the guy that an entire state would talk about forever. He could be the guy that fathers and grandfathers tell their kids and grand kids about for years and years.

He could be that guy as a Mizzou Tiger.

So come home, Michael. We're waiting for you.

M-I-Z...
