Just Win Today: The Mission Statement

"Sometimes you win. Sometimes you learn."

Good morning to the JWT Team. I want to take a minute to give you all an update on the site, where we are now, and where we're going.

The whole idea for this site came from three things:

1) I got hit by a drunk driver going 126 mph, almost died, and spent 20 straight days in the hospital. The texts and messages and calls I got during that time were so uplifting. They came from the most random people... former players, family members, and some people I hadn't seen or talked to in years. So I know first hand how important a kind word from somebody can turn your day around.

2) I sort of do this all the time anyway. Before I started the website, it might be a text to a friend or a phone call. A former player or a coaching buddy or a family member or maybe one of the teachers or students I work with, they might ask me for advice, and I end up telling some kind of story. So I thought, "why not bring all of this together to share with people?"

3) The whole election process... I don't care if you voted for Hillary or Trump or the other guy... it was just nasty. It brought out the worst in people. At the same time, in my own personal life, I went through something really, really hard. So I just got away from Facebook and everything for a while. Just seeing how negative all of that was, and taking everything I said in points 1 and 2 in mind, I decided to do this website.

That's how Just Win Today started. You see, I was just at the point I didn't want to take any more "losses." I'd had plenty of bad days in the last year or two. I was determined to make everyday a win. I can't change what is behind me, and I can't control what is in front of me. Just Win Today. That's all I can control, so that's all I'm going to worry about.

A girl that used to play for me in college, Stephanie Brake (now married, mother of four, Stephie C haha) used to always say, "no regrets, only lifelong lessons." She always had this amazing ability to almost 'detach' her emotions in a bad experience and move on. Next Play. That kind of sums up the point I'm trying to make.

But let me be clear: Every day is not going to be a win. There are still going to be hard times. There are still going to be struggles. When that happens though, that bad day becomes yesterday. It's over. So "Just Win Today," get refocused, learn from whatever just happened, and move on.

So far the format of the site has been uplifting stories from friends of mine. If you enter your email on the blog page, you'll get every new blog/story emailed straight to you. Eventually I'll run out of people sending me stories. That's okay, because as all my former players can tell you, I have like a million of these stories I can tell on my own LOL. So that is still going to be a part of the site.

There are some new ideas that I'm going to start to introduce. My ultimate goal is for the majority of the content to be created by the people on the site. If you register your email on the forum, you can write a new post, leave a quote, leave a comment, etc.

Thank you to everybody who has contributed and got involved. I encourage everybody reading this to also get involved, because you never know how much your story or your idea might mean to somebody else. Even better, these stories are like a boomerang. When you share, and it helps other people, it ends up coming back to help you also.

So everybody #JoinTheRevolution and #JWT
