Skeeter Kell Sporting Goods... People Helping People!

This morning I was driving to work, and I decided to call my good friend, Chris Sledge. For those of you that don't know Chris, his family owns Skeeter Kell Sporting Goods (http://www.skeeterkell.com) in Kennett, MO. For those of you that do know Chris, you know that trying to get in touch with him is harder than getting in touch with the Pope or the President of the United States LOL. He is one busy man.

Well, it never occurred to me that this was a Federal Holiday. I had to come to work because (1) I'm the boss; and (2) we're having a lot of plumbing replaced today; so (3) I have to be here.

So I called Skeeter Kell, and Roger Sledge, Chris's dad, answered the phone. I asked for Chris, he told me "David, he's not here yet," then we talked for a minute, I told him I'd shoot Chris a text, etc...

Here is the point of the story: (1) Roger called me by name, because he knows me and I'm one of his favorite customers (the whole Sledge family makes everybody feel that way LOL); and (2) Roger Sledge, the owner of Skeeter Kell Sporting Goods, a company that makes millions of dollars a year, is working on a Federal Holiday. He's the only guy there. He's answering the phone for goodness' sake!!!

I've been a teacher, a coach, and a school administrator in Missouri, Illinois, and Florida. I've coached kids as young as Kindergarten all the way up to the collegiate level. In all my travels, if I ever needed to buy anything (apparel, balls, bats, gloves, shoes, trophies, banners, etc), they're who I call. I'm a loyal customer, and not just because Chris and I are friends.

Skeeter Kell is a family owned business that has really grown over the years, but they still treat you like family. I joked earlier that I was one of Roger's favorite customers, but their family (and the rest of the team at Skeeter Kell) all treat you like they know you. That's why I've done business with them all of these years, because they just take care of their customers.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS... we live in a society where there is this "get rich quick" mentality, where somebody like Kim Kardashian is famous (I still don't know how or why LOL), and there is so much pressure, especially on young people, to "make it big." The reality is, most of us are never going to be rich or famous or any of that stuff. What we can all do is help people. If you love people and try to help your neighbors, the world where you live can be a better place. That's what Chris Sledge and his family do in Kennett, MO. They help people. They're good to people.

They make the world a little better place for all the people that know them. I hope you enjoyed reading. Have an awesome day!
