New Contest for January

First of all, Happy New Year! If you want a good laugh, watch the video above. I hope your New Year's Eve was NOT like any of the people in the video. Warning: It might have some bad language (people tend to curse right at the moment of impending doom), and it's so funny you might pee your pants.
Okay, we're kicking off a new contest. Before we do that, let me congratulate the two winners of our December contest, Brandon Blankenship and Gary "Scooter" Mize. They both submitted awesome quotes ahead of our December 31 deadline. They won a free "Just Win Today" orange and black T Shirt with the "work-work-work" slogan on the back.
Now it's time to kick off our January contest. There are three ways you can participate:
1) Sign up for the website. All you have to do is enter your email address. You don't need a password. It doesn't cost anything. You just simply enter your email address, now you're signed up, and you can post your own story, quote, etc under the "DISCUSSION" tab on the website.
2) Go to the "CONTACT US" page on the website, fill out the form (it's short and simple), and type in your quote or story in the comment box. It will come straight to my email. If you wish to remain anonymous, but still want your story to be told, just indicate that.
3) Inbox me your story or quote on Facebook. Just type something up, it doesn't have to be a book or anything that long, and send it to me. If you want to remain anonymous, but still want your story told, just indicate that.
Here is the theme of the contest: WHO INSPIRED YOU OR MADE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE?
I'll give you an example...
My high school principal, Jerry T. Crites (RIP), was an awesome guy. He was such an easy going guy, but he still maintained a high level of discipline. I was in 8th grade, had never been to the principal's office in my life, and got called down to the office one day. MY MOTHER had called Mr. Crites because I missed school the previous day.
At the time, my mom was going back to college to get her associates' degree in Child Care (she ended up running a daycare for several years). She had to drive from Morley, MO to Poplar Bluff, MO every morning (about an hour) to finish up her classes. So she would get up, make sure I was ready for school, and then leave for college. It was my job to get myself on the bus.
Well I didn't feel good, and I told her that LOL. My mom told me I better have myself on that bus and to school. I said okay, but then when she left, I thought it was a great idea to just stay home anyway. When mom got home, she could tell I didn't go to school that day. She didn't say a word to me. I thought to myself, "well that was easy!"
Man, was I wrong! The next morning (now we're back to the beginning of this story LOL), I got called down to the office. Mr. Crites called me in, asked me about 'skipping school' the day before. I explained to him I didn't feel well. He nodded and proceeded to take me down the hall and around the school grounds, checking to make sure everything was clean and the grass had been mowed. He was talking to me the entire time, dropping some wisdom on me, counseling me, etc.
So we got back to his office, and he said (exact words) "now I'm gonna have to thrash ya." He told me to listen to my momma, gave me two swats, and sent me back to class. I never knew what hit me LOL. To this day, I remember these two things about Mr. Crites: (1) he really, really cared about me as a person, and (2) he always took the TIME to listen to me and/or explain something to me so that I learned something.
He didn't just "punish" me, he always tried to teach me something. He was a great man. I loved him, and I know that there are hundreds of other alumni from my school who would say the same thing.
So now you tell me your story. It doesn't have to be that long. Who inspired you? Who made a difference for you? Who was there for you at a moment when you were down? The winner gets to pick the colors of the next "Just Win Today" shirt, and they also win a free shirt!
Just Win Today is a community of people helping and supporting each other. The more we share good stories and positive thinking, the more useful this site will be. Thank you to everybody already sharing, and I can't wait to hear from the rest of you!
